This is the last railroad with a switch back existing in the United States. Although the ties and rails are still on the ground, another train will never run here again. Dating back to 1897 this is a very historic site which has seen many trains. An old Mini turntable and other junk litters the switchback site. Medium size trees are growing between the ties and the switches no longer throw. The McCloud River Railroad ran the last steam engine here in 2006. This short line railroad is distinctively unique due to its red cinder ballast and many in place rail segments showing dates of 1900 and earlier.

The roadway to access the switxhback is closed now (Dec 2023). Will try again in summer months if we are back in the area.
