My wife and I were married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse by the Deputy Commissioner of Civil Marriages. I was so impressed with how this office and the Deputy Commissioner made our day feel special. The grounds are beautiful and we took so many photos from all over the Courthouse grounds. The staff is so polite, professional, and efficient. Please make sure you're on time and ready, preparation is key to ensuring this day will be smooth for you if you decide to get married here. I do recommend it if you are having a small wedding with less than 12 people. Anymore and they will just be standing around for administrative actions to be completed and there will be multiple wedding ceremonies occurring so anymore people and they may interfere with other ceremonies or photo shoots.

My fiancé and I drove down 6 hrs to Santa Barbara to obtain a marriage license but they didn’t “approve” my government photo Id because of the stamped logo in the front was faded off but it has Nothing to do with my personal info. It’s real, it was valid, told them to scan it but still didn’t go for it. Personally felt discriminated.

I needed a copy of my birth certificate. Clerk was very helpful and cheery. I even had a mistake on my info due to misreading the question. She fixed it immediately and I was in and out of there within 3 minutes. It honestly beats my city's "city hall/hall of records".

I had to publish for a new business. I didn't know what I was doing or how to do it. Jan Morales of the Recorder's Office could not have been nicer...more patient, informative, instructional and pleasant. She made the whole experience positive. Even though I did not have all of the correct documents I was able to access them through her gentle advice and then completed the transaction with her help. She was so out of the norm for a typical government employee because she was genuinely concerned, compassionate and willing to guide me through the process. Jan, you are a HUGE ASSET to the County Recorder's Office and to the County of Santa Barbara! Exceptional service and outstanding human being!

If I could give this office zero stars I would. I think the 5 star reviews are fake. The document reviewers have no clue what they are doing and they make up new rules every time I go in to their office simply because they are on a power trip. It pains me to know that my taxes pay their salaries. They make it as difficult as possible to get even the most simple of paperwork filed, then you have to go back because they constantly make mistakes! Such an awful place that is in desperate need of new management. The current management there is either extremely corrupt or extremely incompetent.

Go up
