What I really want to know is how does this shady DA's office charge somebody with a felony vandalism on a $250 (cracked) windshield? The damage has to be over $400 for the vandalism charge to be a felony. Unfortunately nothing ever changes in this county..... Between the DA's office, the judges who are puppets for the DA and all other county entities I have one word...CORRUPT. it's really sad that our government protects scum like this office and everyone in it.

Heartbreaking is all I can really describe. I had a case dragged out for 2+ years by the DAs office. They are lazy and negligent in ways that remind me they aren't here for the public. I was notified 2 weeks before trial that my case was cancelled. The email wasn't even addressed to me, it was addressed to a family member via ADA Helenaz Hill. She was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. I understand no one likes having to deal with upset people, but her inability to handle it while working speaks to her deep need to learn how to handle stress like an adult. She is not alone by any means. The entire DA's office will let almost anyone get away with horrible things so long as the person never pleads out. They rarely pursue anything because they want to be paid and further their own careers and they don't care about the community members and Americans they hurt along the way.

Update -This office put a victim through hell for 2 years and then changed their minds. I wouldn't trust them to represent victims interests over their own, ever.

There is a new DA now, so fingers crossed.
Unfortunately, my experience up until now has been so awful, there are no words to describe the lacklustre and slovenly approach we have had to endure for the last several years. Incompetence is an entirely inadequate word for the awfulness.
I will put my hopes in the new DA. Fingers crossed.

The Nevada County District Attorney’s office avoids criminal cases and doesn’t help victims, at least in my case.

I got robbed and vandalized as a renter in Grass Valley.

The District Attorney passed on my case before he even had all the evidence, purportedly because they saw little chance of a conviction.

The Sheriff’s deputies caught the thieves in the act, saw where they took my property, identified the thieves, I have receipts and serial numbers of my property, but because the residence where I rent is in dispute between owners, the District Attorney wrote it off as a “civil matter.”

A friend who is a public defender in Nevada County told us the District Attorney pursues very few criminal cases because they are more work than misdemeanors, and they only like easy convictions.

I spoke with assistant DA Burns, who refused to even talk to me about my case because he said “we have to protect ourselves.”

So, don’t expect justice from the Nevada County District Attorney.

The attitude of all this city employees is just awful!! The lady at the window and the two “police officers “ that refuse to give out there names and give help to the public is disrespectful and should not be employed anymore! Do better
