Very detailed and thorough instruction as well as being able to get up and have some fun with flying. Michael works very well around any tight scheduling you might have and makes that instruction time well worth it. If you are looking to start your flight journey Michael is the person to go to. He has always been patient and always available to help as well as opening up new, and fun opportunities within your aviation journey. I have had the privilege of flying with Michael several times over the last year while he has been my partner’s instructor and he is nothing short of amazing! What I have learned (as the mother) through the PPL training process, is that becoming a pilot, is, like so many other things, about far more than learning how to fly. It is all about the instructor. My son’s private pilot journey began at age 15 in Maine, and was completed yesterday at 18 with Michael. It is only the beginning of a long journey, but it has been through Michael that his commitment was cemented, his confidence soared, and his independence became clear. In addition to other comments here, I would add that Michael share’s himself - which is the hallmark of a mentor, over and above instructor. He is organized, clear, has the ability to read his students and adapt to their learning style without overwhelming them. He has nurtured relationships with the local DPE examiners, and has his own reputation, so they know the competence that his students will arrive to the check ride tests with. He can, and will, talk adventure and flying stories of his own life, as well as how to break into this aviation world as a profession. He gives advice and suggestions, while paying close attention to who his student is, and following their lead. He is open and sensitive to the expense of flight training, and recognizes the need to be focused with his time (a huge plus to those footing the bill of training). And lastly, the culture and atmosphere of Animas Air Park - where Michael teaches primarily out of is a relaxed, welcoming and comfortable place. There is room (and Michael fosters opportunities) to create relationships with others who share the same passion about the air. My son, as an 18 yr old, already plans to stay on with Michael for his IFR training. That is recommendation enough, right there. Congratulations to all that get the chance to work with Michael - you are lucky.

Michael took me and my fiance up for a discovery/intro flight. In addition to the incredible views, we had a great experience with Michael. His instruction was clear and concise. I'm looking forward to many more flights with him as an instructor.

Update: Finished training with Michael after having to leave Durango for work reasons. These past three months of training has been amazing with him. He has taught so much in such little time. His attention to detail and feedback is great and was detrimental to my learning. Highly recommend using Michael for any fixed wing training!!

I have not flown as a pilot in the left seat for 34 years. I went up today with Michael and had such a terrific experience! Michael made it so easy to slide back into the groove of taking off, flying the pattern and landing. It really got my flying juices flowing after so many years. Mike is an excellent pilot and an amazing instructor. His knowledge of aviation is deep and full of passion. Mike went the extra mile to take care of mine and my daughters wants and needs while flying for a day excursion to see if we want to learn to fly. I have done all of my ratings with Michael from 0-Flight Instructor. He is a very knowledgeable and will get you through as quick as you would like it's really just up to you. He brings knowledge from many different parts of aviation which definitely shows. If your goal is to do your training quickly and safely he's a great choice! If I had picked another CFI when I had started my training I don't think I would have made it as far as I am in aviation today and for that I am very grateful.
