Laurie Monroe represents a shocking example of unprofessionalism, unethical conduct, and dangerously poor judgment in the field of children’s counseling. I have substantial evidence to support this review and am open to discussing it further with anyone seeking clarification.

Despite five years of well-documented mental health history for our child, Monroe dismissed this information after only a few brief sessions. She never took the time to meet with our family and instead relied on false information provided by our troubled teen, leading to grossly inaccurate conclusions that were later easily refuted in court. Her actions were not just negligent—they were reckless.

More concerning are Monroe’s repeated and blatant HIPAA violations. On multiple occasions, she openly discussed private details about other patients, including a grieving child dealing with the loss of a grandmother. She canceled patient appointments to attend music concerts under the guise of personal reasons. Her disregard for confidentiality is profoundly troubling and demonstrates a fundamental lack of professionalism.

While Monroe’s hearing impairment is not the issue, it compounded the problem when she insisted on conducting therapy sessions exclusively over the phone, ignoring our repeated requests for in-person meetings. This decision was especially alarming given prior incidents involving inappropriate behavior by our child during remote therapy with another counselor—a fact Monroe was fully aware of. Her inability to effectively hear during phone sessions further diminished the quality of care, yet she refused to adapt or address these concerns.

Her communication methods were also wildly inappropriate. She sent text messages at all hours and withheld critical information, such as the fact that our child had stopped attending therapy sessions altogether. Despite a court order requiring her to provide updates, she left us in the dark for months. When questioned, she deflected by blaming external factors without offering any substantive answers.

The condition of Monroe’s office was equally unacceptable. It was unkempt, foul-smelling, and poorly maintained, resembling a cluttered storage unit rather than a professional therapist’s space. A sickly dog roamed the premises, contributing to the unhygienic environment. The furniture was tacky, dated, and possibly the source of the pervasive odor of urine. On top of this, Monroe handed out sugary drinks and snacks to our child without consulting us about dietary restrictions, showing a complete lack of consideration for her clients' overall well-being.

When confronted about her behavior this evening—after she started engaging with another one of my children without recognizing who I was—Monroe dismissively claimed, “others would disagree,” and brushed off our concerns as just “another bad review.” Her refusal to take responsibility for her actions is appalling, and her nonchalance underscores her inability to recognize the gravity of her conduct.

In fact, after our experience, I would honestly trust Casey Anthony to counsel my children before ever allowing Laurie Monroe near them again.

Her reckless behavior, ethical violations, and utter disregard for patient care make her a dangerous and unfit counselor. Avoid her at all costs. If you are considering legal action or need guidance on reporting her, feel free to reach out for more information.

Laurie Monroe is awful. She was originally supposed to work with my children and Paula Neddlekoff in family therapy that was paired with supervised visitation. She only had negative comments and continued a narrative that was not only false but continued to build on the false claims and basically refused to work with Ms Neddlekoff to the point that she resigned from the case due to non compliance of Laurie Monroe. She’s awful, she’s nasty and she is out of touch. She is not a healing goddess as her handle indicates but a bitter person who will go to no ends to ruin any type of reconciliation of families. She’s delusional she couldn’t even keep her thoughts straight under oath on family court to the point the judge excused her from the stand. Awful person horrible therapist. Shame
Shame on you Laurie you owe the
Children of Humboldt county better. I strongly advise against using her for your children.

I was very much looking forward to our first appointment until I was informed that Laurie does not keep client’s communications confidential and is known to bribe children with gifts. Also, apparently she likes to give hugs and cheek brushes to young children in private without a parent present which is disconcerting as a parent. In fact, one of my close friends had to abruptly terminate her child’s counseling services with her minor child due to her unprofessional, uncomfortable and coercive practices. All in all, Laurie seems to be predatory in her practice and I highly recommend that individuals complete a background check before proceeding with services with her.
