As someone who is extremely selective when it comes to bodywork, I find it challenging to find a practitioner who meets my specific needs. I personally value deep, therapeutic work over superficial relaxation. When I receive a massage, I want to experience a profound release and a lasting transformation in my muscle tissue.

I highly recommend Claire. I went to her after I overused and abused certain muscles while skiing, causing severe pain in my right thigh and hip flexors. After my first session of the Athlete's RX Massage with Claire, I had substantially less pain. I continued to have less pain and build back strength and balance with additional sessions. I think Claire is very skilled at identifying and treating muscle groups that are causing pain. I'm very grateful to Claire.

WARNING:AGGRESSIVE TOUCH/UNPROF PRICE NOTIFICATION/RETALIATION

Before our last session my rating would have been high. Over time, Claire seemed to get complacent. But I didn't assume that or say anything. I assumed it was me. I just verbally repeated my normal 'needs.' Which included a heavier hand. I'm a veteran and she's given me a discount ...that seems to match what she was offering others at the time. Over time, she felt she was worth more and seemed to increase her prices for others. So it was actually that she had a sliding scale, and had less so as her business grew. Little did I know that it wasn't about me being a veteran. (Also, she could actually get paid by the VA (even if partially) if she would fill out the paperwork but most don't so Veterans have to cover it all out of pocket.)

I had started to sense a hurried or distracted hand for a while

The last session, she came late, just drove in. Her hands and room were cold. Which is very hard for me personally. I was rushed in. She was short and sharp. When I expressed my needs that I always had, she cut me off in a hostile tone and said something around: 'well I can do that now but if you want a heavier hand in the future, you are going to have to pay more.' She was visibly angry. I quelled her, saying I was just asking for what I always have. She seemed offended I even asked. She had scoffed/laughed at me, smirking, just as she said it

I was so anxious and uncomfortable; shaking; having a stress response

This was extra painful because of it needing to be a safe space

This was after many apts where she canceled/rescheduled/didn't respond in time. I had long had a standard of monthly. She had failed to manage me to a level that I was only getting care every 3 months on avg

To me, she had developed a covert contract. She had the new expectation of being worth more, while holding the resentment/action to give less of a service and not take me on in available spots

And then she displaced it onto me at the worse possible moment. I showed no negativity and was in fact, too pleasing. I am trained in mediation.

Worse, she knew personally, about how I was treated similarly poorly by someone who took 'needs' poorly

I laid down as she began. She was fast with her movements. Different from the past. I felt tears in me coming out. I felt fear. I felt bullied and rejected. It felt unfair. I felt her anger and contempt. She was haughty

I asked we stop

Only then did she start to soften. (Maybe seeing repercussions now. I wouldn't just allow it.)

Her emotion overtook what should have been my fair space to complain. She then victimized herself. Centering her feelings of guilt with her actions over my space to be heard.

She did not however, offer to fulfill that same priced service another time. She did stick to wanting more money. To me it was clear she was willing to throw me away as a client. As she was, when she handled me poorly. Maybe wanting to run me off. Inflict enough harm and feel righteous because apparently I should have mind read that she should expect more for the same job she had been giving. But she hadn't been giving it. She had lightened her hand because she felt I wasn't paying enough. That confirmed it

I told her it was so fair for her to want more, but you talk price outside of the apt, not just before, with attitude

Be careful. She could flip on a dime. She could hold a covert contract and resentment with you. Emotionally immature and unprofessional

I will suffer memories of that experience in my body for a lifetime, no doubt. Sadly, I have not been able to seek a new practitioner since, I think partially because of this and previous experiences

She broke trust around someone's body by giving hostile behavior and handling the body with cold aggressive hands. This is an ultimate betrayal of trust

I invested in 'my' 'caretaker' for years, supporting her biz, expecting/wanting to not to have to shop around again, to be discarded in a second

I asked she contact me if she wanted to reconcile and move forward. She did not.

I'm SO grateful I found Claire! She has a deep understanding of massage therapy and is and in-tune with all the touch points to relive pain and tension. She's extremely intentional with her healing and as someone with scoliosis and recent tweak in my neck and shoulder blade, Claire has helped with my alignment, and has offered mobility and strengthening exercise suggestions. I will recommend her to anyone and everyone! You need to experience her magic!

Her intentional work is both thorough and thoughtful- she approaches the body with the mind of an anatomical sleuth while still allowing for deep relaxation and reset, which is just what I need. I cannot say enough good things about Claire's sessions! On top of being incredibly generous with her time and knowledge, she is a mindful and caring practitioner in how she approaches your individual needs. Every time I get off her table, I am astounded at how different my body feels and moves. Would recommend her to folks who lead an active lifestyle and need some R&R for their muscles and would recommend her to folks who simply need a relaxing hour. She does it all!
