Some reviewers have noted that the trail can be overgrown in some areas, but overall, the fen is a wonderful green space that supports local wildlife.

The trail is short but offers a variety of growth that is helpful to local wildlife populations.

Attempted to incorporate the Fontana Fen into my morning run and can confidently say that the trail inward from the parking lot is completely overgrown and impassable by early September. Nonetheless, it’s a wonderful green space with a variety of growth that is helpful to local wildlife populations. The trail appears very short when passable.

4.5 Stars. Fontana Fen is not an obvious hiking or conservation area. It's small, inconspicuous but it plays a very important role: Fens are amorphous & retain water.

This Fen can be walked in all Seasons. Grasses are mowed short in Fall/Winter and are thick with new growth in Spring/summer. Walking Paths are cut through the Fen. Indigenous plants, birds, flowers aplenty.

Instead of walking the dangerous shoulder of Route 67 into Fontana, you can cut through the Fen, ending up at St. Benedicts Church. A lot safer and more scenic option. Fen is NOT lit at night.
