Years ago, I was looking for a martial arts style that was practical and covered real life scenarios. A friend recommended me to Five Families Kung Fu San Soo and I was not disappointed. San Soo isn't about competition/sports or ancient spirituality, but more about surviving and handling yourself in any fight or live-or-death scenario. We've covered everything from standard punches and kicks to leverages, grappling/ground fighting, and weapons like knives and swords, which was exactly what I was looking for. Both Master Steve and Matt have a wealth of knowledge in handling confrontations, both physical and verbal, and provide a fun dynamic that makes every class a pleasure.

During the pandemic, Steve and Matt were creative enough to make a virtual version of the class for us to keep our skills up while also being safe for everyone involved. We definitely appreciated this as we were able to continue making progress, rather than grow rusty due to inactivity. We definitely appreciate the level of thought and care that Steve and Matt have put into this class and I look forward to returning to in-person classes in June. Highly recommend.

If you are looking for an adult or kids class — or both — Five Families Kung Fu San Soo is the place for you. Prices are more than reasonable and do not trick you into hidden charges such as testing fees like many other places.

Adult classes include all aspects of self-defense, including mental and physical fitness. Kids classes include the same aspects as in the adult classes but are specifically tailored for children. Kids and adults get fit and more confident in Five Families Kung Fu San Soo.

I am so impressed by Sifu Steve and Si-Hing Matt. Both of them are very supportive and make sure students learn and have fun. My kids and I love Five Families Kung Fu San Soo. We feel welcome.

Do not hesitate. If you really care about yourself and/or your kids, join Five Families Kung Fu San Soo — doing so will make profound changes in your life and in the life of your love ones.

I have been taking Kung Fu San Soo here for a number of years now. The master, Stifu Steve Garrett, is not only a naturally gifted teacher, he is a human being with an extraordinary knack for being able to relate to every student. The point is, he makes it easy to learn and to want to keep learning and growing as a fighter. The depth of his knowledge is incredibly vast but you never feel like you are being talked down to.

Further, the other gentleman running the studio Matt Jaeger, is equally gifted as a teacher and is also super relatable. They have both helped me to build my confidence in the real world. They were also able to pivot seamlessly in the pandemic, maintaining everyone’s momentum and learning in the best way possible.

It’s not super expensive - in fact, I would say it’s an EXCELLENT value. Can’t recommend this place enough. Doesn’t matter what level you are - beginner to black belt - it’s a fantastic school. Plus, it’s just plain fun.
