The first year he did our taxes, I didn't notice a problem (note “didn't notice”). But the second year, I had a problem with the fact that I had an early February appointment with him where I provided all the paperwork, yet as we got closer to the deadline of April 15, and I still haven't heard from him, I had to call his office to find out when our taxes would be done. He told me they'd be done soon. We picked them up on April 10. I understand that he had some medical issues, but I shouldn't have had to follow up with asking when they'd be done, when he had all the paperwork in early February. A little communication from his office would have been expected.

After looking at the taxes, I was confused because he estimated it would be about a $500 refund, instead we owed over $300. That's an estimate difference of about $800. I looked over the paperwork and see that he's clearly missed a number of deductions. So I called him, pointing out the difference between his estimate versus the end result, and tried to tell him that I think he missed some deductions. This is why I go to an accountant in the first place, because I hate doing taxes. Unfortunately, he just kept talking over the top of me and telling me that it was just an estimate, etc. I had to argue quite a bit with him, repeatedly, before he could see what I was saying. Also, I had to point out that I think he did that the prior year, also. He finally relented/heard me, and said we'd file an amendment.

Since the taxes had already been filed, and the IRS would think I owed something, I asked if I should go ahead and pay the IRS now, even though we know the figure is wrong. He pondered that a moment, and told me no, at least twice, that I should NOT pay that now as it would be just sending money back-and-forth and it'd be better to not pay it.

I went back to see him on April 16. This is where we also confirmed that he did not do the 2022 taxes correctly, either.

I wanted to get this done soon, but I still had to call him two or three more times, and it was not until May 6, 20 days after our last meeting, when he got it done. I would think he could get that done in a week, considering it was his fault.

Then on May 31, I received a letter from the IRS pointing out that my tax bill was due and it is accruing interest. So I called the IRS and after waiting for 51 minutes, they told me nope, I better pay that $320 now, as the interest will accrue, and even if it is fixed I will not get my interest and penalties back.

So because of his mess ups, I did not get my money back from the IRS until August 9. Errors happen, and medical situations can come up, but the lack of communication from his office, and having to push and fight him to make him see his errors, and his wrong advice about making a payment to the IRS, is unacceptable.

Unnecessarily files for extensions even though materials are submitted 2 months in advance. Does not return phone calls. We do not recommend him at all.
