“I had a disappointing experience at Surf n Paddle in Laguna Beach. The owner, Rod, was not welcoming and seemed uninterested in providing good customer service. As someone who values supporting local businesses, this was especially disheartening. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this shop based on my experience.”

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to learn how to surf or looking for gears, Rod is very knowledgeable and welcoming, he took very good care of me and taught me very well ! He is always welcoming, it's a great place, I will keep going there and will recommend it !

Rod is rude and condescending. He made fun of my car for being old and dirty and said it would be a “perfect car for Mexico” because it looked so bad. He mocked every question we asked him and was super rude to my wife who was casually looking at items in the shop. The surf board was fine but customer service really poor.

I can’t imagine a better learn to surf experience!!! Our whole family (mom, dad, 16 year old boy and 12 year old girl) took part. Rod had my son on a board riding waves in minutes! He also realized my daughter was not as comfortable so took some one on one time with her after my son was able to be out alone. It really felt like Rod cared and wanted to make sure our kids had fun and felt safe. If we are ever back we would not hesitate to have Rod take us out again!

Stay away from this place! As a Laguna local, I love to support our local businesses, but this place I refuse to support.
The owner is a loose canon. After reading other reviews I see that the way he treated my friend is common place with how he treats others. Says he’s in the “Fun business” but the guy doesn’t seem to have any fun dealing with customers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an owner loose his composure so quickly and start verbally attacking a customer. What a joke. I’m shocked this company can stay in business in a town that has so many other great options. Do yourself a favor, stay clear of this place and spend your money elsewhere. Hopefully our town will eventually rid itself of behavior like this!

Rod has a sweet shop with snowboard gear as well. I go every trip to talk to him, rent surfboards, wetsuits and also get more hats and shirts!! Great guy!
