We started looking for custom builders about 3 years ago, back when building in the Durango area was crazy busy. We were so low-budget that many builders didn't even want to talk with us. After a few false starts and on a last-ditch effort before giving up, we found BWD last year from some nice folks on NextDoor that recommended we reach out.

Everyone we've worked with along the process of building our house has been amazing to work with. Their business development person, Pat, reached out and explained what they might be able to do within our budget. He then brought in Daniel who worked with us and the architect to modify one of their existing plans to meet both our needs and our budget. After a month or so of work on the plans and estimating the project, Greg was brought onboard to be our general contractor and Laurie was brought on to be our interior designer. Both have been an absolute joy to work with during the actual build stage of the process. Greg has worked tirelessly to make sure the build is quality and on budget. Laurie has been amazing to work with as well. She's always making great suggestions on how we can get the look that we're wanting from the various materials we have to choose from. Their finance person, Anne, has worked very well alongside Alpine Bank to make sure subcontractors get paid on time and has helped us keep tabs on the project budget.

As of the time of writing, We're about 75% complete on the project and couldn't be happier with the entire process or the great team that we've been able to work with. If you're looking for a great group to help you with a custom, semi-custom, remodel or other type of build, give them a holler. They're amazing!

I regret to say that our experience with BWD has been quite disappointing, and I feel compelled to share my concerns to help others make informed decisions.

One of the most significant issues we encountered was the consistently poor communication throughout the entire construction process. This lack of communication not only caused anxiety but also led to misunderstandings that could have been easily avoided with better transparency.

Equally disheartening was the evident lack of attention to craftsmanship in our home. The finished product does not meet the standard one would expect from a professional builder, our home resembles the quality of a fix and flip. We have encountered numerous issues, ranging from subpar finishes to structural concerns that should have been identified and addressed during the construction phase. From day one living in our house, it became evident that corners were cut and attention to detail was sorely lacking. We were forced to take matters into our own hands after moving in, installing screen doors that they failed to pick up months prior, and rehanging interior doors to ensure they closed properly—tasks that should have been executed by the builder. The electrical work is equally subpar, with poor wiring causing our oven to repeatedly trip the breaker during use, creating not only inconvenience but also a potential safety hazard. Even the deck, a fundamental element of our outdoor space, proved to be a disappointment, with planks that are not only wobbly but have begun warping. It was deeply frustrating to reach the point of hiring an attorney and engineer to address an issue that our builder, despite our concerns, had dismissively claimed was not a problem.

This list of issues underscores a regrettable lack of commitment to quality, precision and care on the part of BWD, leaving us to rectify problems that should never have arisen in the first place, especially in a new home. Moreover, the follow-up on reported issues was slow and inadequate. Promised resolutions were consistently delayed, and our final punch list was lost by the office manager. The overall experience has left us questioning the integrity and commitment of BWD.

Our experience with this business has been marked by poor communication and substandard craftsmanship. We are happy to be in our home but I sincerely hope that future customers are spared from similar disappointments, and I strongly advise caution before considering this builder for any home construction projects.

*Update - Poor craftsmanship and a lack of attention to detail have nothing to do with Covid. We received our certificate of occupancy in 2023, Covid should not be an excuse for poor quality of work.

We purchased our BWD condo this year and couldn’t be happier with our new home. The quality and Integrity of everyone on the team is second to none. From the very inception to the finished product, BWD delivers an excellent product with excellence. They were extremely attentive to the most minute details, working with us diligently in seeing our vision come to pass. We purchased our town home from BWD and are very happy! We have lived in the town home for 2 1/2 years at the time I'm writing this review. The quality of the construction is excellent; we have had no problems in 2/12 years. We closed the deal before construction had begun, so there was a ton of trust needed between us and BWD. This trust proved to be problem free. BWD kept all of their commitments and there were no cost overruns. I think this is BWD's biggest strengths - trust (along with the quality of the construction). Ryan, Jack, Jari, Scott, Rory and the entire team will do everything they can to make any problematic situation work out for the best. For example, there have been growing pains regarding our town home HOA, but these issues have been resolved, mostly through BWD agreeing to adjust some funding issues. You can trust BWD!
