5/5

TLDR: Lou has been my therapist for three years and is outstanding. They are highly knowledgeable, compassionate, adaptive, and prioritize accessibility. 11/10 would therapy again. This creature has been comforted.

Lou has been my therapist for the past three years, and I couldn't be more excited for them to have their own practice now! As someone who has been in the mental health system for almost a decade, I can confidently say that Lou has been the most impactful therapist I've ever had. By an absolute landslide. I am complexly ill and multiply disabled, which makes it both super important and super difficult to find truly competent care.

When it comes to actual therapeutic work, Lou is everything their website claims and more: highly qualified, genuinely empathetic, and actively interested and engaged in what I have to say. As someone who can frequently struggle with communication, I can also verify that they are equally empathetic and engaged when I am capable of saying nothing at all. They have a truly diverse skill set, and can adapt to do beneficial therapeutic work no matter what state I am in. I have been told over and over that I am too self aware to benefit from therapy, but because Lou uses a lot of methods that aren't rooted in traditional talk therapy (Somatic, Gestalt, IFS, Art therapy, etc) I’ve been able to process and heal in ways I have never been able to with other therapists. And I have worked with a LOT of therapists.

I am rarely impressed when it comes to professionals in the mental health field, unfortunately. I find that most are uneducated or full to the brim with outdated inaccurate information, and have no idea how to work with anyone who falls outside of what their view of a normal is. Lou is an out of the box thinker, open minded, and I am genuinely not sure if there has ever been something I have brought up in a session that they haven’t had a relatively comprehensive understanding of. Though there have been several times over the years that Lou and I have talked about something in session, and they have gone on to do further research to better their understanding and give me more specialized insight. Which I appreciate a lot.

They are also incredibly easy to communicate with when it comes to scheduling appointments and keeping track of them; I get a text alert with a link to my video appointment before every single session, and they have made themself available to me via text for rescheduling and such. This level of accessibility has been absolutely instrumental in ensuring my ability to have autonomy over my own care.

They go above and beyond not only to communicate important information to me but also to ensure effective communication and collaboration with my care team. They actively engage with my personal support people, as well as multiple medical and psychiatric doctors, and have been essential in filling out a seemingly endless pile of SSDI paperwork as well as writing detailed letters containing months and months of condensed therapy notes to ensure I continue to have access to my sole source of income.

I am so grateful to have Lou as my therapist, I have literally trimmed this for length because this review could get positively massive. I promise am a real sentient being behind this keyboard, I just have a lot of really high praise for the only therapist who has actually improved my quality of life, and I understand how exhausting and disheartening it can be to try and find someone who is a properly good fit, so I hope this was able to give some helpful raw insight for those trying to make that hard decision.
