This range has gone down hill for the worst in the last few months. They replaced the plywood target backs with orange fencing. You can mount a target on it, only for one gust of wind to blow it off. The frames have been shot to pieces, since that is where everyone now mounts their targets to.
The self proclaimed RSO Bart is an absolute nightmare when he is there. Bart loves to bring all his large cases out spread them across multiple benches to unload them, then leave them open on the ground for you to walk around. He will give you countless amounts of unsolicited advice on how to shoot, how to be a safe shooter and why he is better than you. Bart then will proceed to flag you with a loaded gun and do nothing to correct his negligence. He puts more rounds through others targets and frames than he does of his own. I have had this happen to me and seen it happen to others both on the rifle and pistol ranges. He loves to call cold range to fix his targets when everyone is shooting. Bart does not like when you call cold range when he is shooting and will stare angerly at you for doing so. Be cautious if you go to this range.

Very fun place to visit and shoot skeet, five stand and trap. Guns and instructors hired through Aspen Shooting (ask for Billy). Went there three different seasons now. Don't forget in the winter! First timers and experts welcome.

Great range for free target shooting. Rifle Range, Shotgun Range, Pistol Range, and Skeet. Please be extremely cautious and responsible at this range, especially during the hot dry summer months. Locals are far to familiar with forest fires that have started from careless users at this location.

Sopris mtn. fresh snow,

So there is more than just the image of Basalt's Lake Christine Public Pistol & Rifle ranges in Basalt, there's 'ROARING FORK VALLEY SPORTSMAN'S ASSOCIATION'.
On the North Easterly side of the Public lands used to house both pistol/rifle is the CLAY taget facilities. RFVSA, a humble club with modest fees, and super friendly helpful shotgunner's all willing to help anyone who wants to learn more about breaking clay targets, or shooting a new shotgun, etc. It offers Trap, Skeet and 5 Stand on the weekends, and has a Patterning Board. While our membership is modest in numbers, for tge non-members, the clay target facilities are open 3 times a week, but the facilities are used by the members 7 days a week. One note is, generally speaking, and as we are a seasonally impacted facility, the Clay target ranges are always open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Also and fortunately, there are several businesses that utilize the facilities which provides additional financial support to fully maintain the SKT, Trap & 5 Stand houses. Now, this is just my opinion, the location is the most beautiful facility I have ever shot at and belonged to since I first started shooting in '59. At RFVSA there are several fully accredited shooting instructors that teach there, plus several competitive Trap & SKT shooters using the facilities. The RO's are more than generous in devoting time to allow for all the ranges to remain operative and safe. In belonging to 2 other out of State Clay Target clubs for several years, like RFVSA, both are well run ranges. I am proud to say Basalt's Lake Christine facilities are on the same par as those highly used ranges I've shot elsewhere at, RFVSA facilities are just more compact. Also, I'm proud to assist with our facilities however I can. Without out a facility such as Basalt's Lake Christine ranges, hundreds of shooter's would be turned loose into the Public lands possibly endangering animals and humans alike. I've been a Lifetime member for almost 25 years at RFVSA, NRA & SCI. We all hope you'll take time to come shoot, we'd love to help you get started or just make a new friend sharing similar interests in life.

Great facility, well maintained and down right awesome to have a place in our valley where folks can enjoy the shooting experience in a safety conscious environment. CPW has done a great job in recent years by adding acoustic enhancements to mitigate noise impact and other upgrades- well done!

Used only the rifle range , mid week, late season; only two other shooters who were there for short stints. Clean, orderly facility with target stands to 200 yards. Professional and helpful rangemaster.

Great public range with clean facilities. If it werent for this range in this valley you would have a lot of stray shooters on BLM land.
