We trained with Reilly of Guidancesteel mid-week and were highly impressed. We are gun novices and needed a ton of advice to get started shooting safety and effectively. He was patient and a great teacher with high emphasis on safety. A big plus is that we were shooting targets in in a private action bay. Definitely five stars.

If you're looking for a private, personalized, safe, and fun introduction to practical firearm use, then I highly recommend the Level 1 course at Guidance Steel. The location is outdoors and easy to get to. All equipment including guns, ammo, ear, and eye protection (for sunlight and lower-light conditions) are provided. Even drinks and snacks are provided, but you'll probably be having too much fun to even think about those.

After an initial discussion about the safety principles that are exercised throughout the course, instructor Reilly goes through proper stance, grip, aim, and trigger control. In a very short amount of time, Reilly can assess what you're doing wrong and how to correct it so you can start hitting targets as accurately and as fast as you can. It's an extremely personalized experience because Reilly is constantly finding that sweet spot where you're comfortable and challenged at the same time. To give you some context, I had zero experience with handguns and only
handled a firearm once before taking this course. By the end of the course, I had been exposed to several different types of handguns, a lever-action rifle, and was even hitting moving targets. It's an incredible experience and I can't wait for level 2.

Fantastic instructor. Reilly produces a safe yet fun learning environment. His teaching approach applies critical thinking to traditional firearms instruction and turns it on its head, dramatically improving results. I was amazed by what I could do (safely!) after only a few hours of instruction. Highly recommended!

Reilly's a great shooting coach. I learned how to safely handle a gun in a relatively short amount of time under his instruction. The course setup was well designed and emphasized technique/skill building as well as fun while learning how to shoot steel targets.

The value and teaching that you get for the price is a very solid deal. I'll be taking another course under Reilly as I get more into shooting.

I am a Bernie bro who is pretty ambivalent about guns. In fact, I had never held a gun before visiting Guidance Steel and was pretty nervous to go. My fears were allayed almost instantly. The instructor was personable but very safety oriented. We received toy guns first to learn how to handle them. We were told to treat the toys as real guns and were corrected when we did not. This made me feel really safe. We then moved up to small caliber hand guns, and from there it all felt really safe.
The part I didn't expect? I had so much fun! Unlike a normal range we weren't just shooting at a human silhouette (something I felt uncomfortable with). We had fun steel targets, partner races, and a cool target called a texas star that moves after your shoot it. We also had a whole outdoor section to ourselves so other people weren't watching and it wasn't super loud--both things made me feel less intimidated.
I doubt I will ever own a gun, but I am already organizing a group to go back to Guidance Steel. It was that fun.

What a fantastic experience!! I didn’t really know what to expect going into my first session having only shot a handgun once before. After a long introduction focused on safety and technique we were able to go from not being able to hit a stationary target to knocking off all the targets on a spinning Texas Star. Great value and we can’t wait to take Level II. Thanks again!!
