I have been at this gym for over six years and this academy has an amazing wealth of instructors, training partners and just all round makes everyone feel welcomed and part of the team. No matter your experience level, the head coach is invested in your progress and will push you to be the best version of yourself on and off the mats. Professor Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano has been a black belt for well over 20 years and it shows in his academy. I've had the pleasure to train under his tuteledge and leadership in one capacity or another over the course of the past 9 years, and for the last 5 of those, I've had to make at least a 30 mile commute to make it to class. His level of safety, professionalism and camaraderie keep me coming back, day in and day out, week after week, month after month, year after year.

His academy is well-rounded and safe for both beginners and experts alike. Should you wish to focus on the sport, self defense or fitness, Tinguinha and his staff are able to meet your needs.

Professor Tinguinha teaches all of the classes himself - something that is unheard of for someone as renowned as himself within the jiu jitsu community. This means his eye is consistently on your training and he is able to provide appropriate feedback to foster continued growth - from the first day you step on the mats until well past the time you've earned your black belt. Additionally, he provides student consultations periodically to get one on time to discuss your goals, your level, and how you are developing. This is a value added service at no additional cost, even tho I don't know of any other academies who do this.

But perhaps the most important part of the academy has to do with the culture that Tinguinha has created. The students work together as a team, enabling the progress of one another, creating lifelong friendships both on and off the mat. Tinguinha continues to ensure a safe and healthy environment where you can work on becoming the best version of yourself.

Finally, the school has added hygienic procedures to ensure a clean and safe environment in the covid era: a designated entrance and exit, small class sizes, temperature taken at the door, wipes and hand sanitizer, and mats cleaned between every class are only some of the safety measures that have been added.
