Do Not Attend 160 Driving Academy*

Let me be clear: do not go to this school! I’ve had enough of emails asking for my review. You wanted it, so here it is. This school caused me so much anxiety and stress. I paid nearly $6,000 cash to attend, planning my life around this decision. I thought I asked all the right questions before joining, but I didn’t read the reviews, and I really wish I had.

I went to this school in July 2023, and let me tell you, Tony is a creep! He made advances towards me hoping to score, and it’s disgusting. This school only cares about one thing: money. They cram students in, with only three trucks available—two of them actually running. There were 30+ students per truck, and many days we didn’t even get a chance to drive. So many students are failing or testing that they just pile them in front of the line, creating a domino effect that messes up everyone else’s seat time.

I specifically signed up for manual transmission training, but I ended up having to test out in an automatic.
We didn't even get to drive the manual trucks on automatic most days we didn’t get seat time because there were just too many students.
It was exhausting and draining, and they didn't respect my time and efforts at all.

I was trying to move on with my life, but I keep getting emails for a review, so here’s my truth. I spoke up about the issues, and what happened? I got kicked off the yard by Tony, who then turned around and expressed his “feelings” for me on the last day while we were standing outside the truck in front of Dollar General. I had too much riding on my life to fuss or fight with anyone.

Thanks to the instructors who actually cared, like Lala and Frank, and another guy whose name I forgot. I pray that no one else experiences what we went through, especially the women. I’ve already sent an email, so don’t bother with any fake responses. Just leave me alone. Thanks.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL PERIOD. If you have a bad MVR, but the DDS stills allows you to get your CDL licenses. 160 Driving admissions will not make you aware of your inability to obtain a driving career. They will lie to get you enrolled in their program. This is after I presented my MVR report prior to enrollment. I had to create a Dispute claims just to get my $4k enrollment fee back. It’s all about being transparent and honest upfront with enrollees. THUS, CREATING FALSE HOPE! I was a first time passer and I did everything right, but no one would hire a student with no driving experience and a bad MVR.
Yes it was my fault getting those speeding violations, but 160 Admissions should’ve been straightforward & upfront with me before accepting my enrollment.

Lala, Frank, Mitch, and Corey thank you for all your help. It can be a little hectic but if you want to learn, act like you want to be productive and step up. They are willing to teach you what you need to know in order to succeed and pass the course. Great job 160

Great school to go to especially if your a fast learner, Lala is definitely one of the best to get trained by. Mr. Tony great sense of humor, Mr. Frank is cool, Mr. Larry is a nice guy, Overall I achieved my goal.

The school itself is great, it was a good experience compared to my last one. Lala and Frank were my go tos. Larry is a tad iffy and James is eh. They're cool but if you really want to learn how to drive, straight back, offset, parallel, and alley you need to break your ankle running to Lala and Frank. Mitch is awesome too he helped me with offset but he'll mostly be at the test site and will give you some great pointers to calm your nerves. Now... as far as getting in touch with the office for anything you have to go up there cause calling won't do a damn thing. And even when you go up there, they either won't be there or they'll be sleep lol. I've had to call their call center just to get in touch with them. I never get a call back, just an email. The office clearly doesn't care much about the students and that's fine... why waste your time talking to us when you just care about us giving you the money right ? Eh whatever, anyways Lala, Frank, and Mitch were my go tos and they should be yours as well or whenever you go, you'll find out why. Good Luck !

First I want to say thank you for all you all have done. Teaching technique definitely was on point. I had a hard time with some of the maneuvers Lala and Corey was patient and got me right. Tony cool he should be manager cuz his energy is amazing and he is very knowledgeable. Corey and Frank some smooth guys as well they got my driving skills up to par and gave great advice on what you should do to pass your test and I used them all to pass my driving test the first go round. Also shout out to Corey for the support and helping me cheer my classmates on while they pass the test all in the same day. Now James aht aht he is not it. Falls asleep while teaching in cab gives information that is not accurate for the test and fails you based on how he feels that day. Mike he cool but he definitely needs to be more mindful and considerate when teaching students. Every student has a different learn curve. Not every student can take the yelling and profanity def got to have tough skin dealing with him and be assertive. The yard was not all that but I wouldn’t have know that if DOT didn’t pull up taking pics and correcting the situation. They def due for new trucks but I also understand that some of the issues are from students learning what to do in and with a truck for the first time. But over all my goal was accomplished I got what I needed but you definitely need to be self motivated and determined to get what “You” need out of any situation. Lala still mentors me even after graduating thanks for your advice!

Forest Park location is the worst location by far. Some of the instructors are very disrespectful. There are to many students at one time. It's difficult to learn maneuvers because of the amount of students. There is also a power struggle with instructors. Most of them wants to be the boss. Some of the instructors are very rude and unprofessional. They need to fire the bad ones and bring some people in that know how to teach. Or just shut the school down.

PLEASE READ- Not sure where to begin so I'll rate each department individually so I don't lump everything together as there are some positives related to this school.

Recruiting - 3 STARS because Terrance did work to get me a quick retest date AFTER no one showed up with a truck on my initial test date which was over a month after graduating.(graduated 9/22, 1st Test date was 10/27) which was longer than course took. Also got me a in quickly after someone cancelled when I blew the retest.

YARD MANAGEMENT - I use the word management very loosely. If I could give NEGATIVE STARS, this is where I'd do it. LARRY IS A JOKE as a manager of people. No accountability for anything that doesn't go right under his management - which is a lot! Has no clue what's actually happening on his watch. Had no clue there wasn't a truck available for students to test with on BACK TO BACK days! One day is too many, but to allow it happen the next day is unfathomable!

ORGANIZATION - 2 STARS Everyday is like a grab bag where you don't know what to expect until an hour into the day.

EQUIPMENT - 1 STAR Might as well have in a in house mechanic with as many issues there are with the trucks. School is making TOO MUCH money to not have up to date and working trucks. I'll include the actual yard in this as well. Potholes are a part of the real world but shouldn't be during training.

TRAINERS - 5 STARS This doesn't include the other female trainer(not Lala) who Larry blamed for Trucks not being available for students on test dates. he said she was let go as a result, but I realized that wasn't the case. LaLa, Corey, Frank, Mike, and even Tony's unique method were all an important part of me passing the CDL test. Richard is a real one too as he kept it 100, and provided valuable information at the test site!

Overall you can definitely get your licence here, and if you're not in a hurry to do so, and can manage yourself effectively, overlook the faulty equipment, and poor management(Larry) this could be the place for you.
